Feel free to add in any tennis tips you have, such as any things beginners overlook, any things that give a small edge, anything that could help people in general.

I personally need help on a backhand and spins.

Bend your knees for every tennis shot! Stay low and get under the ball is what my coach always tells me. Your shots will become more deadly if you do so.

Swing from low to high and use a semi-western forehand grip. Many beginners lob the ball, and that is because 1. They don’t bend their knees to stay low. 2. They don’t get under the ball. 3. They don’t swing from low to high. It took me a while to get used to those three things.

If you use a two-handed backhand and are right-handed, your left hand should be doing 90% of the work. It should be driving the ball forward, while your right hand pretty much just is on the racket handle for the ride. Remember to bend your knees and follow through!

To get topspin, use thinner strings.. 17 or even 18 gauge. As you swing, brush the ball with your racket while driving the ball forward. Do not use your wrist to brush the ball… you may end up tearing a tendon in your wrist and will have to put tennis on hold for a few months. It’s happened to me before… instead, use the larger muscle groups in your arm to brush the ball. A good way to remember how to swing your racket is the rainbow shape, or the windshield wiper motion.

    Hope this helps!

I have been playing for about 8 years now since i was about 5-6. I have played some higher ranked tournaments and have done well-ish.

One of the major things that I think younger people overlook are fitness, although a lot of younger players may look fit they infact are not and as a result they get injured and can loose some important time.

I agree with the comment about staying low, i still forget to do that now and tend to hit the back fence when i do. lol. another thing is to remember that you will get better nad don’t get down on yourself.

One more tip if you want to do well is to get as much match practice as you can even if you are not that good because it will come in handy later in your career.
